The Other Socrates - The Barnes & Noble Review

That's how I learnt some Greek and got into the ancient philosophers. Thanks to the Jewish German Loeb!

What Happens when a Leftist Philosopher Discovers God? | Religion and Other Curiosities

Well, this reads easily and you don't even have to understand German or read Hegel in the original for that matter. A well written piece going quite a distance to show that you don't have to be unintelligible to be philosophical.

Kruger's oldest elephant dies - Times LIVE

That's another memorable day and what a blessing that for over 5 decades he could roam freely in the confines of the park. Pray that this will be possible for his descendants too and for mine to behold.

Our classroom heroes - Times LIVE

Prof. Jonathan Jansen encourages as he writes. Here another positive insight into his fast experience of education in South Africa - and yes, I am also grateful for the good teachers at all levels of schooling right back from the Primary School days in Uelzen, KZN, but also at Wartburg Kirchdorf High School and then finally at the Universities of Pretoria and of South Africa.

Land claim trust 'mismanaged' - Times LIVE

It's good news if previously cheated people receive justice and have wrongs are rectified. However its much worse and adding insult to injury if the boards, trusts and managers tasked with delivering the rightful goods to their rightful owners default on their services. They prolong the injustices of the past, the prevent reconciliation and healing and they impede necessary development of the affected communities. Bad governance is a plight and dreadful scourge! We pray against it in the 4th petition of the "Our Father" and we can use this as another example of Jesus Christ's parables of the bad stewards in the vineyard, harvest and management of his people. Wachsende Ringe

Lieber Freund:

(Rainer Maria Rilke an Arthur Holitscher)

Gmail - The need for Dialogue on Hate Speech - kppwweber@gmail.com

There is a continuous need to put this issue on the table and not to ignore it. Learning to vocalize the emotions and perceptions and to accept the various standpoints surrounding them.

The complication of the matter are illustrated by the comments made by Jessie Duarte.

We need a lot of good will and also lot's of patience, endurance and more hard work, but perhaps even a change of heart and something like a conversion on some parts to resent hate-speech and practice no-tolerance towards this derogatory practice.

Re-visiting LTS

Rev. Radikobo Ntsimane, who was teacher, pastor and rector at the LTS for more than a decade and is now a lecturer at the University of KZN and also at the Lutheran Theological Institute in Pietermaritzburg returned to LTS this week to teach  History of the Church in South Africa at LTS. Here he is both in a serious and playful mood. We are hopeful that he will return regularly to teach and preach at the LTS.
