This verse has traditionally been sung after the rite of holy Baptism in our congregations. Since my times as pastor in Wittenberg [Mpumalanga] I always felt it was misplaced there, but should rather be sung before and as an introduction leading up to this, because in Baptism the triune God answers this prayer. Why should we then ask him to do, what he has just done?
A verse I would by far prefer is the popular gradual hymn for this 6th Sunday after Trinity: Baptized into your name most holy... [LSB 590]
